About Us

The Briarwood School is an independent, non-profit, co-educational day school for children with learning differences. Especially designed for children in grades K-12, the individualized educational process at Briarwood is total. We educate the mind, cultivate the spirit, and strive to enhance self-esteem through academic, physical, emotional, and social growth.

The warmth and vitality that permeates the Briarwood campus is a great asset in providing the students, from throughout Harris and surrounding counties, support and encouragement to learn, to develop individual interests, and to bridge the gap between their intellectual potential and academic achievement.

Two major areas of special educational needs are addressed at Briarwood:

  1. Diagnosed learning disabilities or exhibited learning differences in reading, math, language, or writing which may be accompanied by attention deficit disorders or hyperactivity.
  2. Developmental challenges such as pervasive developmental disorders.

Of the approximately 300 students who enroll each year, 80% are children in our Lower and Middle-Upper Schools with average to superior intelligence who have special academic needs. The remaining 20% are developmentally challenged children enrolled in our Tuttle (Special) School.

Mission Statement

The Briarwood School empowers students with diagnosed learning differences or developmental disorders to reach their maximum potential through diagnostic-prescriptive instruction in a structured academic environment.

Philosophy

Every child can learn and has the right to be taught in the way that he or she learns best.
