Welcome

Since 1967, Briarwood has embodied the belief that every student can learn and has the right to be taught the way he or she learns best.

If you are just learning about Briarwood, welcome! We are a school unlike any other. Many of the students who find their way to Briarwood experienced discouragement and defeat in other learning environments. At Briarwood, we strive to understand and honor each unique experience, embrace challenges and acknowledge strengths.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our website!

I invite you to please take a moment to look around, watch a few videos, and get a feel for Briarwood. As you will come to find, the Briarwood Experience is one like no other. Our curriculum is carefully planned and designed to meet the various needs of students with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities. From our I-lab to our makerspace to our evidence-based approach to language remediation, we are a school that is intentional in our approach. Our character education and social pragmatics programs build confidence and advocacy skills. All athletic programs take advantage of our incredible field house, track and field and outdoor space. The Briarwood faculty and staff are invested in creating an academic experience designed to meet the individual needs of our students. We work hard and play hard. We set and redefine goals and then achieve academic success through the structured support and guidance of our faculty. Briarwood students are engaged, confident and motivated to find success through the development of their various talents.

I invite you to tour Briarwood, either virtually or in person. If you come in person, stop in to share your journey and allow me to help you begin your Briarwood Experience.

See you soon,
David Mendlewski, Head of School

Briarwood is a school rooted in the belief that children who learn differently have the right to the best education available. We are a community determined to give students who have struggled with learning differences the strategies to make learning attainable, enjoyable and life-changing.

Surrounded by highly trained and skilled faculty, led by an administrative team who set high standards of excellence and see the value of ongoing professional development, the Briarwood student receives intense remediation that will give him or her the skills, strategies and tools to achieve success throughout their educational careers. While many of our students choose to stay at Briarwood through graduation, others may choose to make a successful transition to another school, and most continue on to college and have rewarding careers.

We invite you to learn more about us by calling and by visiting our campus to see us in action. Within the walls and halls of Briarwood, we have the future: a generation of children, adolescents and young adults who have the potential to change the world. They are each future engineers, architects, teachers, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, media specialists, writers, journalists, photographers, and chefs.

The Mission of the Briarwood School is to empower students with diagnosed learning differences or developmental disorders to reach their maximum potential through diagnostic-prescriptive instruction in a structured academic environment.
